
Michael is passionate about wildlife and the natural world. He fell in love with animals at the age of four when he met his first snake and has been obsessed with creatures of every description ever since.
Michael spent over twenty-two years working with both the San Francisco and San Diego Zoos. He is a respected professional zoo keeper and animal manager as well as an accomplished animal trainer. His resume includes more than 400 types of animals, ranging from the smallest species of snakes to the largest cats. Michael ended his zoo career as the Animal Care Manager (ACM) for the San Diego Wild Animal Park. As the ACM, Michael was responsible for sixty-three staff members, an operating budget of $3.5 million, 800 acres of displays and more than 2,100 animals.
With his extensive knowledge, personable style and witty sense of humor, he has been featured on television programs such as Animal Planet's The Keepers (with appearances in every episode), and the Nickelodeon Network. He has also acted as a spokesperson for various television news interviews as well as video tours for the Zoological Society of San Diego.
